Police Blotter: Shoplifting and Check Fraud Suspects Arrested; Paddleboat Stolen

Following are highlights from recent police reports:

Retail Fraud

A 25-year-old Bloomfield Township woman is accused of trying to conceal items she didn't pay for in a baby stroller while at TJ Maxx, reports said.

Bloomfield Township police officers responded to the store at about 8:30 p.m. on June 18 after security guards said they detained a woman who concealed a purse and cosmetic items valued at about $85 in the bottom of a stroller. They arrested her without incident and transported her to the station for booking, reports said. She was then released pending formal charges.

Attempted Prescription Fraud

Bloomfield Township police officers investigated an attempted prescription fraud at the Medi-Cap Pharmacy Wednesday, reports said. Officers were called to the pharmacy, located at 43121 Woodward Ave., after a woman tried to fill three fraudulent prescriptions at about 11:45 a.m. The woman left before officers arrived and did not get the medications. She is described as about 50 years old and left the scene in a black older-model Chevy Impala, reports said.

Larcenies

  • 3700 block of Franklin Road: A resident reported his paddleboat was taken from along the dock of Upper Long Lake sometime between June 17-20. No description was provided in reports and no suspect information was available.
  • South Fox Hills Drive: The owner of a landscaping company told police a Stihl backpack blower was taken from a work crew on June 19, reports said. The employee left it near the roadway while working on a property between 2-4 p.m. No suspect information was available.
  • 3800 block of Oakland Drive: The window on a 2003 Jeep Cherokee was shattered while parked overnight in the driveway of a home, reports said. Taken was a folder containing miscellaneous paperwork. No suspect information was available.

Bloomfield Hills

Check Fraud Suspect Arrested at Bank

Officers with the were called to the Citizens Bank, at 39520 Woodward Ave., at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday by employees who suspected a man was trying to cash a bogus check, reports said.

The officers identified and arrested the individual without incident upon entering the bank, however, a second suspect believed to have driven the man left the scene and could not be found, reports said. Police learned that bank security had alerted employees about a similar fraud that occurred the previous day on the same account.

Reports said the suspect was taken to the Oakland County Jail pending formal charges, and that the investigation is ongoing.
