Police Blotter: Baby Formula Stolen from Kroger, Home Invasion and More

This information was supplied by the Bloomfield Township Police Department and Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Bloomfield Township

The Bloomfield Township Police Department responded to several property crimes over the past week:

Retail frauds

  • A man and woman team walked away from a Bloomfield Township Kroger with nearly $500 worth of baby formula Monday afternoon, police reports said. Officers responded to the Kroger at 4099 Telegraph Rd. at about 4 p.m. when employees reported the two filled up a cart with formula and walked out of the store. They were seen entering and leaving the scene in a compact SUV, reports said. Physical descriptions of the suspects were not available.
  • A 25-year-old man was arrested on retail fraud charges after he allegedly took three Wii game controllers from Best Buy last week. Store employees called police after the man fled the store and got into a silver sport utility vehicle that sped away at about 1:20 p.m., reports said. Police caught up with the vehicle nearby and arrested the suspect without incident. Further details were unavailable.

Chief Richard Matott said investigators will seek charges for auto theft and receiving and concealing stolen property against the Detroit men who were arrested Dec. 14. A joint investigation between the two departments shows the men, ages 24 and 21, are believed to be involved in at least four auto thefts or larcenies in Bloomfield Hills, and that they are tied to similar crimes in neighboring Birmingham.

Those crimes will take priority in the pending court cases and the joint investigation is ongoing, Matott said. A third man believed to be involved at the scene evaded authorities and remains at large.

The department reported no other major police incidents or significant fire runs during the past week.
