Police: Catalytic Converters Taken From Bloomfield Honda; Woman Arrested for Warrants, Marijuana

Catalytic Converter Thefts Continue

Employees at Honda Bloomfield discovered the catalytic converters of three vehicles were cut off and stolen during the Christmas holiday weekend, according to Bloomfield Township Police Department reports.

Officers responded to the dealership on the township's north side on the morning of Dec. 26, and determined the parts were sawed off. The thefts occurred sometime while the dealership closed between Dec. 22 and Dec. 26 for Christmas.

The converters, which are used to filter engine emissions, are commonly targeted by thieves because of the valuable metal components inside, such as platinum or palladium, authorities said. Damage to each of the vehicles was estimated at $1,200. The department is investigating nearly a dozen similar thefts reported since the spring. No suspect information was available.

Woman With Warrant, Suspended License Arrested

A Pontiac woman faces multiple charges following her arrest on New Year's Day for what officers found out while trying to assist with her disabled vehicle. Officers responded to the area of Square Lake and Telegraph roads for a disabled vehicle shortly before 2 p.m. on Jan. 1 and discovered the driver had an active warrant for her arrest, reports said.

Latricia Crump, 42, was also driving on a suspended license and was arrested at the scene for resisting police when she refused to get out of the vehicle. Officers also found marijuana in her purse during their search of the vehicle. Crump posted bond on the outstanding warrant and was released pending a formal appearance in 48th District Court, reports said.

Larceny and Retail Fraud Reported

• A resident in the 1000 block of Winthrop told police on Dec. 27 that a leaf blower and string weed and grass trimmer was taken from his garage. There were no signs of forced entry and no other items were reported missing. A time frame for the theft was unavailable.
• Police said a man walked into The Eye Place, located at 42931 Woodward Ave., on Dec. 26 and asked to see a pair of Cartier eyeglass frames at about 1:40 p.m. As soon as the employee handed them over, the man ran out of store and headed north on foot. The frames are valued at about $2,000, reports said. He was described as a black with a light complexion, about 5-feet-10, thin and in his 40s. Investigators are still reviewing surveillance camera footage for possible leads.
