Police: 'Impaired' Mom Kidnaps Daughter, Leads Cops on 75 mph Chase with Child on Lap

"I have no idea how I got here," woman says during her arraignment on multiple felony charges.

A Michigan woman who allegedly kidnapped her 5-year-old daughter Sunday and then held the girl on her lap as she fled police during a 6-mile chase faces multiple felony charges.

Stop sticks were eventually used to blow out the vehicle’s tires and end the chase, which reached speeds of up to 75 mph, WSBT-TV reports.

Aubrey Coy, 34, of Kosciusko County has been charged with seven felonies and one misdemeanor, including child abuse, resisting arrest, possession of cocaine, obstruction of justice, fleeing, and eluding police and operating under the influence of drugs.

During her video arraignment Monday, a crying Coy reportedly said, “I have no idea how I got here.”

Police said the wild chase started in the southwestern Michigan community of Warsaw after Coy made a supervised visit to her daughter. She was accompanied by her mother, the court-ordered supervisor, who reported to authorities at 5:30 p.m. that her daughter and granddaughter were missing.

The grandmother will not be charged, according to the report.

Coy pulled over when initially stopped by police, then took off. After police deployed stop sticks that flattened the vehicle’s tires, Coy is seen on the dash cam video trying to flee and fighting with police, holding the child the entire time and refusing to let go. Officers eventually had to pull the child from her arms.

“She literally put not just herself and that child in danger, but those officers that were chasing [her] and other pedestrians on the roadway,” Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Todd Peterson said. “And I think that goes a long way to show her judgment at least was pretty impaired.”

Coy has prior convictions in Indiana for methamphetamine and cocaine possession, drunken driving, resisting arrest and speeding, the television station said.
