Woman's Stolen Identity Used to Get $19,000 in Student Loans

Officers with the Bloomfield Township Police Department investigated multiple larceny and theft reports from the past week. Here are some of the highlights from police reports. 


Identity Stolen

A resident in the 7000 block of Parkstone notified police on Aug. 19 that she discovered that someone used her personal information to co-sign for several student loans. The loans, totaling about $19,000 are now in default, and investigators are tracking down the students who benefitted from the loans, reports said.


Larcenies

  • A student at the new Bloomfield Hills High School reported her phone was taken from her gym bag while attending practice during the afternoon of Aug. 15. The victim told police she left her bag within eyesight in the gymnasium, but noticed her phone was missing after practice, reports said. The student was able to track the phone for a couple of days and provided locations to investigators, reports said. The investigation is ongoing. 
  • An employee at Jimmy John's, located at 4087 Maple Rd., told police his phone was stolen from inside the store on Aug. 16, reports said. The victim told officers he plugged the iPhone into a charger at the rear of the store, and it was gone a few hours later. No suspect information was available. 
  • Two air conditioning units were taken from a home in the 2000 block of Heron Place sometime on Aug. 14, police reports said. The home was unoccupied and undergoing renovations at the time. The total value of the stolen equipment is about $6000. No witness or suspect information was available. 

Stolen Vehicle

A resident in the 400 block of S. Fox Hills told police that someone stole his 2006 Dodge Charger on Aug. 19, reports said. The theft occurred sometime the previous night. There were no signs of forced entry, and the incident remains under investigation, reports said.
