Andover Road Getting A Facelift; What Should Be Next?

Bloomfield Township will close and resurface Andover Road off of Telegraph this summer. What road is in worse shape?

A street connecting the municipal center, and the to Telegraph Road is getting a facelift.

Andover Road, which connects with Telegraph just south of the Bloomfield Township municipal center and the 48th District Court, will be closed from Exeter Road for resurfacing beginning in late June. It will be the first major work on the roadway since it was built in 1981, and the project will likely last two months, said Wayne Domine, the township's director of engineering and environment.

Domine said it has been 15 years since any patchwork occurred on the two-lane road and that its current condition is very rough.

The unanimously approved a $389,558 bid from Koala-T Construction, Inc. for the work during their meeting last week. It was the low bid, and was roughly $79,000 under the engineer's estimate, Domine explained. The township will be responsible for $81,685 of it due to tri-party funding agreements, and also the remaining $144,503 cost of the bid. Domine said the funds were in this year's budget.

Domine said the construction won't start until about June 20 when the school year is over, and that the township has applied for a complete road closure with the Road Commission of Oakland County through August.

He also said it should not disrupt traffic flow to the Bloomfield Township Senior Services Center, which uses the driveway off of Andover Road as a main entrance.
