Five Things That Happened in Bloomfield Township Government

Missed the latest township Board of Trustees and Planning Commission meetings? Here's what you need to know to get caught up.

Here are five things to help bring you up to date on Bloomfield Township government news:

1. Animal clinic granted approval to expand

The Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved the site plan and special land use considerations allowing the DePorre Animal Hospital to expand. The owners, Drs. Pierre and Jules DePorre, plan to modernize their facility, opened in 1958, and consolidate properties near the northeast corner of Telegraph and Maple Roads, adjacent to the Telegraph Road Bypass. Traffic will continue with two-way access, and nearly 80 parking spaces are approved.

2. Fireworks will fly over Wabeek Country Club

Trustees granted a fireworks permit for the Wabeek Country Club's annual summer celebration June 30. More than 700 fireworks will be displayed from the club's 18th tee beginning at 10 p.m., township documents show. The celebration will be moved to July 1 if it rains.

3. Block grant partnership with county extended

Bloomfield Township will remain partners with Oakland County to help receive federal community development block grant funds. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires the county to renew cooperative agreements for block grant funds with municipalities every three years. Since early 2009, about $222,954 has funded minor home repair programs for low-income residents. The township's Senior Services Department helped the Minor Home Repair program complete 20 projects and assist 18 low-income senior residents in making safety improvements at their homes, said Christine Tvaroha, director of Bloomfield Township Senior Services. The renewed agreement covers 2012-14.

4. Public hearing set for zoning ordinance amendment

The Bloomfield Township Planning Commission set a public hearing for 7 p.m. July 18 on a proposed amendment to the zoning ordinance relating to the Design Review Board regulations. The proposed change would designate 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month as the scheduled meeting time, unless otherwise designated by the supervisor with proper notice to the public.

5. Next regular meeting for Planning Commission canceled

The Bloomfield Township Planning Commission also canceled its scheduled meeting for July 6 due to the Independence Day holiday. The next meeting is July 18.
