McCready Enters Crowded GOP Field for State Representative

Bloomfield Hills Commissioner formally announces bid to replace term-limited Chuck Moss.

The race for the Republican Party candidate to represent the Bloomfield area in the State House just got a little more crowded.

Bloomfield Hills City Commissioner Mike McCready formally announced his bid for the 40th District in Lansing next fall on Wednesday afternoon. The 40th District is composed of Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Keego Harbor, Sylvan Lake and Orchard Lake Village. Current Rep. Chuck Moss, R-Birmingham, is term limited and

and announced their candidacies early this year, and West Bloomfield attorney David Wolkinson declared his intentions for the seat at the in March. They will face each other in the Aug. 7 party primary.

McCready, a principal at Birmingham-based McCready and Associates, said he intends to help government live within its means and to help Michigan's economy rebound.

"I am running for state representative because we need to keep Michigan on the right track financially and never revert back to the days when state government could not balance a budget or pass one on time," he said in a written statement.

Though he described himself as a conservative Republican, he said politicians need to move beyond partisan bickering and start delivering for the public.

"I am willing to work with Governor Snyder and anyone in Lansing to help Michigan be a better place for job creators," he said. "The citizens of Michigan want their government to work, and they don't care who does it or who gets credit for it."

He was first elected commissioner in 2007 after serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals for five years, including a stint as chairman. He recently served as mayor and was one of three incumbents re-elected to the city commission with nearly 29 percent of the vote last year.

McCready was born and raised in Oakland County and graduate from Seaholm High School in 1978. He is a Western Michigan University alumnus, and has lived in Bloomfield Hills with wife, Yvonne, and their two children for 16 years.
