Chief District Court Judge Marc Barron presided over the brief swearing-in ceremony before other members of the board, staff, and family members in Township Hall, attendees said.
Savoie was selected by the majority of the board on Monday to succeed Dave Payne, who resigned with a little more than a year left on his term. Treasurer Dan Devine also sought the position.
Savoie officially starts Monday and wil conduct his first meeting on Wednesday Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. The board typically meets on Mondays and was scheduled to meet Aug 8, but postponed it in honor of Tish'a B'av, a Jewish holy day.
"I am glad it is over," Savoie said of the appointment process, which was marred with personal accusations and became contentious. "But I'm excited to get started and looking forward to it."
A video recording of Monday's meeting is now available on the Township's Website.
