Stabenow Supports Obamacare, Cites Bloomfield Hills Letter at Sebelius Hearing

The Michigan senator mixed in stories from constituents in Bloomfield Hills, Pontiac and Detroit in her remarks during Wednesday's ObamaCare hearing.

U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), was among the Democrats that had critical remarks for Health and Human Services Secretary Katleen Sebelius on Wednesday when she appeared before a Senate panel looking into the dreadful launch of the ObamaCare website.

But the four-term senator from Clare also made a point of sharing some positive stories her office recently received from constituents about the Affordable Care Act. One of them came from a Bloomfield Hills resident she identified only as Greg. In her opening remarks to Sebelius, Stabenow said he who wrote a letter that explained how the family's insurance carrier dropped their son from their policy because it was inadequate under Obamacare standards.

"Our insurer advised us to enter the health care exchange to obtain a new policy and we had no problem entering the exchange or navigating through the various policy alternatives, with much greater coverage than the old policy," the letter read.

Stabenow then had Sebelius confirm that starting in January, Greg's son, and other like him, would have plans that included preventative care without out-of-pocket expenses, a prescription plan, and coverage regardless of pre-existing conditions under the new law.

“There is no way to describe the frustration all of us have (regarding the website)," Stabenow said. “We certainly want to hear more of (comments like Greg's).”
