Need to Know: The 2012-13 Bloomfield Hills Schools Calendar

The start of the school year for Bloomfield area students is fast approaching and here are the key dates every BHS parent should keep in mind.

Need to get a child's dentist or doctor appointment scheduled? Or want to start planning you next family vacation? Time to put these important dates about the coming year in the on your calendar.

August

Aug. 23-24: New teacher/staff orientation

Aug. 28-29: Professional development day

Aug. 31: No school, pre-Labor Day holiday

September

Sept. 4: First full day of school for students grades 6-12; morning half-day for kindergarten through 5th grade.

Sept. 17: No school

Sept. 26: No school

October

Oct. 31: Half-day for students kindergarten through 12th grade, professional development day in afternoon.

November

Nov. 6: No School, Election Day; professional development day for teachers.

Nov. 20: Half-day (am) at elementary and middle school.

Nov. 21: No school, parent/teacher conference comp. day.

Nov. 22/23: No school, Thanksgiving Holiday.

December

Dec. 24-Jan. 2: No school, winter break.

January

Jan. 2: No school, professional development day  

Jan. 3: Classes resume

Jan. 21: No school, Martin Luther King Day

Jan. 25: Half-day for students kindergarten through 12th grade, half day for teacher records.

Jan. 28: Second semester begins.

February

Feb. 22/25: No school, mid-winter break

Feb. 25: Professional Development Day

Feb. 27: Classes resume

March

March 5: No school, except for students in 11th grade that will take the Michigan Merit Exam.

March 6: Late start for high school students.

March 28: Half-day for kindergarten through 12th grade, parent/teacher comp. half day. Not applicable to Wing Lake students.

March 29: No School, Good Friday

April

April 1-5: No school, spring break.

April 8: Classes resume.

April 26: Half-day for students in 9th, 11th, and 12th grades (a.m.). MYP Personal Project Adjudication for 10th grade in the afternoon.

May

May 24: Half-day for kindergarten through 12th grade, half-day professional development.

May 27: No school, Memorial Day.

June

June 14: Half-day and final day for all students.

June 17: Last day for staff/teacher records, kindergarten through 12 grade.

Perhaps the pensions need to be reformed rather than "reforming" their financing. Are we taking on added pension obligations for personnel to support services we have "sold" to other jurisdictions?

I was wrong when I predicted that the School District would be asking for more money in two or threeRead More years - by two or three years...... No wonder I didn't get elected to the Board. With such miscalculations on my part, I realize that the majority of the voters had so much more insight than I had........lol Maybe I should learn a lesson here - borrow money to keep the "life-style" I have become used to. What genius!
