Roeper Names New Middle School Director

"At the core of my educational philosophy is a desire for active collaboration in the learning community," said Colleen Potocki.

 

The Roeper School has a new director for its middle school.

Colleen Potocki, currently an English teacher at the school's Birmingham campus, will take over effective July 1, according to a news release issued Wednesday afternoon.

“I am looking forward to the adventure of the middle school director position and remain challenged by and dedicated to the Roeper philosophy and community,” said Potocki, who has more than two decades of experience in the classroom.

She succeeds Carolyn Borman, who served as middle school director on an interim basis since 2009.

Potocki was an assistant professor and adjunct instructor at Gulf Coast Community College as well as an English teacher at the Seaside Neighborhood School in Florida. She earned an her undergraduate degree and Master’s degree in English, Magna Cum Laude, from Oakland University, and remains a special lecturer at her alma mater.

"Colleen brings a deep understanding of early adolescents, the Roeper philosophy and the daily experiences of our 6th through 8th grade students,” said Head of School David Feldman. Feldman also noted that Potocki served as department coordinator and homeroom advisor, and is the parent of a former and current Roeper student.

The Reoper community warmly accepted the news.

"Couldn't have found anyone better than Colleen! Congrats!," wrote Angie Zyskowski on the school's Facebook page.

"Big fan of this," posted Ned Baker.

Potocki expressed her gratitude and passion for the school.

“At the core of my educational philosophy is a desire for active collaboration in the learning community, the invitation to view mistakes as steps forward, the opportunity to make uncomfortable situations comfortable, and a routine consideration of both the possible and impossible,” she said.
