Black Hawks Football Gaining Ground in Game of the Week Polls

The school's inaugural game against Birmingham Groves Friday is getting a huge response on Channels 7 and 4.

After a strong surge of votes Monday afternoon, the first football game hosted at the new Bloomfield Hills High School Friday could be featured on Channel 7.

The 7 p.m. match-up between Bloomfield and Birmingham Groves at the newly designed Dauch Field behind the former Lahser High School was in the lead with 62 percent of the vote as of 9 a.m., according to wxyz.com.
That was nearly four times as many votes as the next of the five possible featured games between the defending Division I champion Detroit Cass Tech and Southfield.

That game led handily early Monday, only to be surpassed by the long-time rivalry between Lake Orion and Oxford. However, that game dropped to third by Tuesday morning with 12 percent.

Voting for the On Your Sidelines Meijer Game of the Week remains open through Wednesday, and a winner will be declared on Thursday. Channel 7 sports reporter Brad Galli will report live from the winning game during news broadcasts at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on game day, and highlights of the game will be shared on the 11 p.m. news.

Not to be outdone

The Bloomfield-Groves game is also gaining attention on Channel 4's weekly poll for its weekly 'Friday Football Frenzy.' The season opener for both schools garnered more than 2,220 votes for 27 percent as of 9 a.m. That was good for second place among the three possible match-ups.

Voting also goes through Wednesday, and winners are announced Thursday morning during the 6 a.m. hour of Local 4 News Today. The winning school will host a pep rally early Friday morning and will be featured on newscasts throughout the morning, and again in the evening.
