Bloomfield United Girls Lacrosse Headed to State Finals

The Black Hawks will face Rockford at Rockford in the MHSAA Division 1 Finals this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Who's going?

With their season, and a historic playoff run on the brink, the Bloomfield United Girls Lacrosse Team kept it together and seized the opportunity to advance to the MHSAA State Finals for the first time Wednesday night at Hartland High School.

The 10-9 thrilling win over Ann Arbor Pioneer Wednesday night, continued the Black Hawks' impressive streak of beating top teams in the area. But it didn't look that way until a penalty with less than two minutes remaining, Coach Andy Reed said.

Capitalizing on the call, Emma Mucci was open in front of the Pioneer goal and scored the tying goal with less than 90 seconds left, Reed said. Paige Tornow and Christina Arens assisted.

After Maddie Monahan won the next draw, Maria D'Angelo took a pass from Margaret Metzger and buried the game winner with 20 seconds left, Reed reported.

Prior to Pioneer, the Black Hawks beat top-10 ranked Birmingham Unified, Birmingham Marian, and Troy High School. The combined team of Andover and Lahser high schools now has the chance to cap each of school's final lacrosse season in historic fashion. The schools will merge next fall.
