Brother Rice, Cranbrook Claim State Golf Titles

Both the Warriors and Cranes bested the competition in their respective divisions during the two-day tourney, which concluded Saturday.

 

Both and more than represented the Bloomfield area well during the state golf finals this weekend, winning titles for their respective programs, according to the Michigan High School Athletic Association Website.

Brother Rice - 304 - 298 - 602

Led by Sean Friel's 73 score on Saturday, the Warriors barely edged out Battle Creek Lakeview with a two-day total score of 602 to 603 at the Meadows Golf Course on the campus of Grand Valley State University. Friel, who shot a 75 Saturday, finished with the team's top total score of 148 — tied for fourth best in the tournament. Trailing by just one stroke was teammate Kyle Gaines, and by three was Lucas Belanger.

Brother Rice entered the competition Saturday in 5th place.

Cranbrook-Kingswood- 299 - 289 - 588

Cranbrook's victory Saturday was a little less dramatic after the Cranes stormed to a 12-stroke lead by shooting 299 on Friday at Ferris State University's Katke Golf Course.

Dylan Deogun shot a team-best 144, which tied for fourth overall during the two-day tournament. Alex Papa tied for ninth with a 147, and Michael Ray tied for seventh by shaving five strokes off his Friday score to finish with a 146.
