Cranbrook Football Team Joins Fight For Local Jobs This Homecoming

School will help Goodwill Industries' "Dollars for Jobs" effort during Saturday's game against Southfield Christian.

The Cranbrook-Kingswood varsity high school football team is helping Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit raise funds to fight Metro Detroit unemployment at its homecoming game Saturday against Southfield Christian at 2 p.m.

Cranbrook's team has designated the homecoming game as its official "Dollar for Jobs" event. Goodwill envelopes will be passed through the stands and fans are encouraged to donate a dollar and "pass it forward" to another fan, according to a news release.

The goal of “Dollars for Jobs” is to engage young people from Metro Detroit in combating the region’s unemployment. The campaign offers teens and young adults the opportunity to help their family members and neighbors who may be out of work to earn a job with support from Goodwill Industries, according to Goodwill's website.

Detroit Lions wide received Nate Burleson is the face of the “Dollars for Jobs” campaign, featured in a public service announcement video located on the campaign homepage.

“For many, high school football can provide an escape from some of the challenges we face in the Detroit area, like our current unemployment crisis,” said Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit Vice President Lindsay Chalmers. “This ‘Dollars for Jobs’ campaign proves high school athletics also can contribute to solutions. Even a small donation from a large amount of people can make an incredible collective impact on the lives of thousands.”
