Andover

The Andover boys and girls both finished in fourth place in the team standings. The Barons were closer to the middle of the pack as a team, but they still had a lot of success individually.

Jarred Bratley won the boys race and teammate Joey Kemeny wasn’t far behind in third place. The girls also had two top 10 finishers with Lexi Sinclair (sixth) and Mackenzie Gammons (10th).

Varsity Girls Swimming

The top swimmers in the area all competed at Lake Orion on Friday and Saturday in the 2011 Oakland County Girls Swimming and Diving Championships.

Farmington Hills Mercy finished in first place in the team standings by a wide margin with over 350 points. Marian High School finished in second place while Cranbrook Kingswood (10th) and Lahser (15th) both finished in the top 15.

To automatically qualify for the meet, students had to swim better than cut-off times set for each individual event by September 25.

There was also a consideration cut-off time for all events. If a race had less than 40 swimmers reach the automatic qualifying time then the event was filled out by girls that reached the consideration cut-off time.

The Mustangs won two events on Saturday. They won the 200 meter freestyle relay and Jaynie Pulte won the 50 meter freestyle.

Varsity Boys Football

Lahser

The Lahser varsity football team came through in a must win game on Friday night against Warren Fitzgerald.

Quarterback Spencer McCourt threw for more than 200 yards and two touchdowns to help his team snap a two game losing streak with a 29-19 victory at home.

At 4-2, the Knights are two wins away from clinching a playoff spot with three games left to play.

Andover

Andover has played six games this season and now four of them have been decided by three points or less. The Barons dropped to 0-6 on the season with a 27-24 loss to Ferndale on Friday night.

Winston Urwiller and Juarrezz Smith each had a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to help claim their first win on the season.

Brother Rice

The quest for 400 wins will have to wait at least one more week for Brother Rice Head Coach Al Fracassa.

Fracassa’s team lost 10-9 at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in overtime on Friday night. St. Mary's senior wide receiver Christopher Woolen scored the winning touchdown in overtime and a win over its Catholic League rival.
