Lahser Knights Make MHSAA's 'Sweet 16'
No letdown for Lahser as the Knights advance 70-61 over Troy Athens Monday night.
The march to East Lansing continued Monday for the Lahser Knights, who advanced to the MHSAA's Sweet 16 with a 70-61 victory over Troy Athens at West Bloomfield High School.
The Knights won their fourth consecutive playoff game with a strong second half that displayed their quickness and ability to dominate inside. Center Yante Maten followed up his game-winning performance Friday against Orchard Lake St. Mary's with 24points, 18 rebounds 5 blocks and 5 assists, according to statistics compiled by the team. Armand Cartwright scored 23 points and had 6 assists, and Khalil Gracey finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Senior swingman Kyle Riley was the only other Knight to score (4 points) and also finished with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
Lahser will play Rochester on Wednesday at West Bloomfield at 6 p.m. Rochester topped the Knights 62-55 on Feb. 12 in their only other meeting this year.

Detroit Country Day also advanced to the round of 16 Monday with a 75-57 win over Chandler Park on their home court. The Yellowjackets nailed 12 of 19 3-pointers during the game, including seven in the third quarter when they outscored their opponent 33-19, Miprepzone.com reported.
Senior sharp-shooter Austin Price led the Yellowjackets with 21 points and junior Edward Sumner scored 20. The win sets up a regional final game with Detroit Douglass at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Country Day. Class B regional.
