Last Year, Fate May Have Saved Women Who Finished This Year's Boston Marathon

Andra Eisenberg and Sandra Woolman were a half-mile away from the finish line last year when the first bomb exploded at the Boston Marathon. They returned this year to finish the race.

Fate stepped in during the 2013 Boston Marathon, stopping Andrea Eisenberg of Bloomship Township and her running partner, Sandra Woolman, of West Bloomfield, from finishing – perhaps saving their lives.

“I was really struggling at that marathon. I didn’t know why. Now, I look back, and I know why,”Eisenberg, a doctor who practices  in Farmington Hills, told The Oakland Press. “Somehow, fate helped me.”.

Both women wereback in Boston Monday and finished the race, incident-free.

“So many mixed emotions coming back to Boston — from seeing all the people with Boston jackets on at Detroit airport, to arriving in Boston ... to experiencing Fenway Park, to walking through the Boston Marathon Memorial, to reuniting with those that we met here last year and showed us kindness in our time of need,” Eisenberg told the newspaper. “I am grateful and honored to be part of such a community and to be back here.”
