Poll: Who's Your 'Unsung' Detroit Tiger?

Everyone knows the stars, but the baseball world is now getting a glimpse of those other Tigers whose contributions continue to make a difference this season.

Anybody paying attention to these Detroit Tigers knows ace Justin Verlander and slugger Miguel Cabrera are having MVP-caliber seasons, and are the best players on the roster.

But every successful baseball team needs those "other" guys to step up, and a manager that can put them in the right spot at the right time. Several unheralded players had key roles in last night's 5-4 victory in Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series that put the New York Yankees on the brink of elimination, including Don Kelly and Delmon Young, whose tie-breaking homer is being called pivotal in this story from The Detroit News.

Inge: He batted over .300 after coming back from the minors and is over .600 in the playoffs. He got the first hit last nite, scored the first run and provides energy and great defense to the team.

Hey, Michael! Great to see you here! I agree, Inge's comeback has been amazing. This Detroit Free Press story today is a good one: http://bit.ly/pt8vwm. Inge says of his return: "Getting back (here) was a big step for me."

All good points Michael, and I struggled with leaving Inge off this list because he played big last night. Ultimately, I chose not to because he's such a lightning rod that divides Tigers fans, and I didn't want it to become a referendum on Inge. But since you opened the door . . .
