Stoney Creek's Nick Gajdzik: Patch Athlete of the Week for Feb. 27-March 2

The Stoney Creek wrestler was undefeated this year and took home a state championship medal last weekend at The Palace.

wrestler Nick Gajdzik, state champion at the recent MHSAA individual finals, was voted by readers last week as Patch Athlete of the Week for Feb. 27-March 2.

Gajdzik captured 52 percent of the 1,411 votes in the across most of Oakland County, with Micaela Ellis of Ferndale coming in second with 41 percent of the votes.

At the individual MHSAA wrestling state finals, Gajdzik won the Division 1 title in the 215 pound weight class with a 2-1 win over . He won all four of his matches at The Palace of Auburn Hills to finish the season a perfect 46-0.

Gajdzik aso won his . His victory on March 3 gave Stoney Creek its first state title in school history.

“Perfect record was never the goal, my goal was a state championship but it’s a very nice thing to add this year,” Gajdzik said, smiling.
