The Knights will try to rebound after first loss of the season with game at Berkley this weekend.

Varsity Football

Lahser High School will face a challenge at 7 p.m. Friday

The Knights lost the first game of the season last week to North Farmington. The Raiders running backs dominated the game and this weekend Lahser will face another team that really likes to run the ball.

The Barons are 0-4 on the season and have to play the hottest team in the Oakland Activities Association Blue division. The Falcons have won three in a row, the school’s longest winning streak in seven years.

Their running back Keon Collier has four touchdowns in each of the past two games. Andover’s defense, which has struggled at times, will have a challenge on its hands trying to stop the senior.

Brother Rice

The Warriors played its first home game ever last week and lost a heartbreaker 21-20 in overtime to Warren De La Salle.

It was a tough Catholic League Central loss and the Warriors will try to rebound this week with another conference game against University of Detroit Jesuit at 1 p.m. Saturday on Berkley's Hurley Field.

Detroit Country Day

The Yellowjackets will try to make it three wins in a row against Belleville at 7 p.m. Friday under the lights at Eastern Michigan University.

A victory would guarantee the Country Day a winning record on their three game road trip, and put them over .500 for the first time all season. They should be the favorites this weekend against a Belleville team that is 0-4 on the season.

Varsity Boys Tennis

Brother Rice and Lahser will clash on the tennis courts this week. The schools played Tuesday on the Warriors home courts at 4 p.m.

The Knights had to face a trio of juniors Gunnar Peery, Jack Hamaty and Johnny Cameron that made it to the state semifinals last season in singles. The Warriors have been playing well in September and look like a favorite for the state championship this season.

Brother Rice also hosts Seaholm for a match at 4 p.m. Thursday. Lahser has two other matches this week. It hosts Rochester on today at 4 p.m. and then has a match against Lake Orion on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

Detroit Country Day Varsity Cross Country (Coed)

The Country Day boys and girls cross country teams will compete in a unique tournament this weekend hosted by Romeo High School at Wolcott Farm. This year's Old Skool Cross Country Classic starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

The course has two river crossings, hay bails and is described as a very muddy. What’s unique about the event is that each class runs separately – there’s a freshman race, sophomore race, junior race and senior race. The best five places overall in races are added up to make up the team scores.

Other schools competing at the event include – Seaholm, Roeper, Clawson, Center Line, Anchor Bay, Almont and East Detroit.
