Dre Smith – Royal Oak High School (boys basketball): Dre Smith drained a buzzer beater from 15-feet out on Friday night to give Royal Oak a 47-46 win over Lahser in the Oakland Activities Association Gold division. Smith had 15 points for the Ravens in a 62-55 win over University High School on Tuesday.

Shwan Shadaia – Rochester High School (wrestling): Shwan Shadaia was one of five Rochester wrestlers to win an individual regional title on Saturday at L’Anse Creuse. In the 189-pound finals, Shadaia nearly choked himself out trying to escape a side headlock, went down 10-7 to Utica Ford’s David Skochelak with a minute to go. Shadaia grabbed Skochelak’s leg and whipped him to the mat with 20 seconds on the clock to even the score 10-10. In overtime, Shadaia scored another takedown to win 12-10.

Nick Gajdzik – Stoney Creek High School (wrestling): Stoney Creek senior Nick Gajdzik came into the L’Anse Creuse regional with a 39-0 record and left with his winning streak intact. He won the heavyweight division (285) regional title pinning all three of his opponents.

Allison Kohl – West Bloomfield High School (skater): Junior Allison Kohl skates on the Crystallettes Senior team, based in Dearborn. Her team won the Midwestern Sectional Championships in January and last weekend won again for Team USA at the Neuchatel Trophy in Neuchatel, Switzerland.  They will be competing at the US Nationals the first weekend in March and the top two teams will progress to the World Championships in Gotenburg, Sweden in April.

Andrew Napieraj - Brother Rice High School (wrestling): Junior Andrew Napieraj won the 135-pound regional title at the Davison regional on Saturday. He pinned Seaholm’s Tim List in the finals bout.
