Warrior Fans Rave About Brother Rice's Historic State Title Win

Locals boast about the new state football champions.

24-14 win Friday over Lowell in the MHSAA state football finals at Ford Field has the greater Bloomfield area excited.

As the for the first time since 2005, the support for the orange and black team has intensified.

“I think it's awesome; great for the school, great for the area and a lot of fans were there,” said Dave Schumacher, a Bloomfield Hills resident who attended the game. “It was cool, the excitement level was pretty high especially for the kids, they loved it; it was really fun.”

Marc Secontine, who is Brother Rice head coach Al Fracassa’s nephew, said: “I think it’s great. They had some struggles during the regular season and missed some field goals near the end but they persevered and won the state championship. It’s a storybook story."

Brandon Alexander, a Beverly Hills resident, said: “I didn’t catch the game but going all the way to the state championship is just another one under their belt. They obviously have a really good coaching staff and a really strong program so they’re the team to beat next year.”

On the Brother Rice Facebook page, a post about the victory had 90 likes and more than a dozen comments, including:

Bob Denyer ‎'71 Always proud to be a Brother Rice Warrior. Particularly today! Congratulations to Coach Fracassa, the coaches, and the entire team. You make us proud.

Kevin Kalczynski ‎'91 Great day to be a Warrior! The players on this team, which earlier in the year lost 3 games to bitter rivals by a total of 4 points, learned how to get up after they were knocked down. That is an important lesson that will serve them well in life. Sports are good that way.

Jim Beauregard ‎79' Great day to wear the Orange and Black.. Congratulations to Coach Fracassa a true developer of men!! Way to go everyone involved!!!

Chris Drouin Took my 11 month old son to his first Rice game today. Great game for his first of many. Great job Coach! Great job Warriors!
