Lahser Faces Familiar Foe Avondale to Start Final Playoff Run

The Knights varsity football team enters the final postseason in school history Friday at 7 p.m.

The 2012-13 Lahser High School varsity football team will have to get past a familiar adversary in order to make a memorable run this postseason.

The Auburn Hills Avondale Yellowjackets (8-1) will host the Knights at 7 p.m. Friday night in a game that could not only extend Lahser's season, but its football legacy — for at least one more game — as the merger to the new Bloomfield Hills High School looms next fall. Avondale beat Lahser (6-3) 37-20 at home on Oct. 12 in a game in which they never trailed.

Lahser's typically stout defense forced two fumbles during the contest, but surrendered more than 400 yards on the ground during the game, including at least 140 yards to two different running backs. The Knights rebounded to  thwart any playoff-preventing upset at Hazel Park 43-22 last Friday, according to the MHSAA Website.

Avondale enters the playoffs riding a three-game win streak since falling to Birmingham Seaholm 28-15 on Sept. 28. The Knights qualified for the playoffs last season and lost 28-7 in the first round to Redford Thurston.
