Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson will give Birmingham-area residents a peek at the future of the county's knowledge-based economy during a special address at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at The Community House. Mad Science at the BTPL

Join a book discussion for kids in Kindergarten through 1st grade with a scientific twist at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. Children, along with their favorite adult, will read and discuss a book and then conduct related experiments. Register by calling Youth Services at 248-642-5800. Copies of the story are available at the Youth Services Desk.

Books and Bites at Baldwin 

Celebrate the Baldwin Public Library at the annual Books & Bites at Baldwin fund-raiser from 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Proceeds will benefit the Baldwin Public Library’s outreach services, which include collections and services that target patrons with special needs, physical challenges, developmental disabilities, or different learning styles. The event includes a strolling dinner prepared by Bistro Joe’s, Café Via, Churchill's Bistro & Cigar Bar, Frank Street Bakery, Townhouse and What Crêpe?, with desserts from Le Petit Prince. Live music will be performed by Sean Blackman.

'A Season For Elegance' at Cranbrook

The annual fund-raiser for the benefit Cranbrook House and Gardens Auxiliary will again feature decadent holiday tables and cheer for a patron reception at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. General admission days follow from 10-a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 22 and 23; and from noon to 4 p.m. on Nov. 24. Visit the Cranbrook House and Gardens Auxiliary website for more information.


Gingerbread Houses and More

Join the fun at this year's annual "Gingerbread Brunch" to benefit Preservation Bloomfield at 9 a.m. Friday at Oakland Hills Country Club. See the holiday-inspired creativity of local pastry chefs and listen to holiday melodies performed by the Bloomfield Hills High School Chamber Orchestra while enjoying a splendid meal at the organization's signature fund-raisers to benefit the historic Barton Farmhouse restoration.
