Corn Maze, Free Choir Concert and Michigan Modern Lecture

Corn Maze

Try your luck at navigating more than three miles of mazes through tall corn fields at the Bowers School Farm, for the annual Corn Maze, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday. Once your done, enjoy wagon rides, a straw maze for toddlers, pumpkin picking, farm animals, pony rides and s'mores. Activities run until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

"From Sea to Shining Sea"

The Music at Christ Church Cranbrook Concert Series launches with a free concert by the Sounding Light Choir at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Christ Church Cranbrook. familiar favorites like “O Shenandoah” and “She’ll be Comin’ Round the Mountain,” and compelling original works from Aaron Copland to Stephen Paulus will be featured. Celebrate Martha Baldwin

Join the celebration to honor the 100th anniversary of the naming of the Baldwin Public Library for miss Martha Baldwin from 1-3 p.m. Sunday. Activities are planned throughout the library, including a presentation by local historian Diane Bert called “Getting to Know Martha Baldwin.” Library officials will also host a ribbong cutting ceremony at the newly-renovated Teen Scene.

Michigan Modern: The National Context

Bloomfield Hills resident Eric Hill, professor of practice in architecture at the University of Michigan will present an overview of the findings of the Michigan Modern project from pre-modern pioneers to Michigan’s leading architects. The lecture begins at 4 p.m. Oct. 6 in the deSalle Auditorium at the Cranbrook Art Museum and are included with Museum admission. The Michigan Modern Exhibit is on display at Cranbrook through Oct. 13. 

Maestro at Manresa

Internationally-acclaimed musician Leszek Bartkiewicz will perform works by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Chopin at a piano recital hosted by Manresa Jesuit Retreat House at 3 p.m. Oct. 6. An afterglow with the artist will follow. Tickets are $25 each and are available by phone at 248- 644-4933 or online.
