Tuesday Highlights: Ferndale Soccer Wins Division Title

Birmingham lacrosse falls to Cranbrook in the final seconds; Bloomfield Hills Lahser bests Berkley in soccer.

* home team  in all CAPS FERNDALE over Farmington, 2-1 Lexie Brisson-Fast scored twice to give the Ferndale High School girls soccer team a key victory over Oakland Activities Association Blue rival Farmington on Tuesday night. The Eagles won 2-1 to give it sole possession of the division title in the Blue and an undefeated record in league play at 10-0-2. Overall, Ferndale is 13-2-2. LAHSER over Berkley, 3-2 On senior night, Bloomfield Hills Lahser overcame an early goal against to go up 3-1 on Berkley, and the Knights held on for a 3-2 win after a late goal by the Bears. Lahser was proud to honor its seven seniors with a victory. Goals were scored by Maddie Rohr, Suzanne Miller, and Maddie Ferry. Brea Dean had key saves late in the game …

Friday Highlights: Andover Baseball Nearing 20 Wins

The Barons erase three-run deficit at Lakeshore on Friday; highlights and scores from around Oakland County for the week.

* home team in all CAPS Andover over ST. CLAIR LAKESHORE, 10-4 Andover rallied to beat St. Clair Lakeshore on the road Friday night 10-4. Lakeshore score all four of its runs in the bottom of the third. The Barons stormed back with three runs in the fourth, five in the sixth and two insurance runs in the seventh. Zach Wolfe struck out four batters over the first three innings. Truman Lorick pitched three scoreless innings in relieve and Gabe Berman struck out the side in the seventh. Myron Butler had two hits and two RBIs. Emerson Misch went 3-for-5 with a walk and an RBI. Gabe Berman hit a homerun. Andover's record is now 19-4-1 and it takes on Lamphere in a doubleheader on Saturday at home. BIRMINGHAM UNITED over Sacred Heart, 14-8 …

Miller scored two goals in a 5-1 win over West Bloomfield on Thursday. Earlier in the week she gave the Bears an early 1-0 lead over North Farmington. Berkley went on to win 3-1. Miller is the team’s leading scorer and a big reason why the Bears are undefeated at 9-0-2 this season. Andover’s Tim Zobl: Patch Athlete of the Week for April 23-28

Barons’ Tim Zobl tops West Bloomfield’s Allyson Kus in a wild week of voting.

Andover’s Tim Zobl won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for April 23-28 with over 4,000 votes after a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers in Oakland County, or 55 percent of the total votes cast (8,247). He edged out Allyson Kus from West Bloomfield, who also received strong support. The Lakers starting pitcher had 42 percent of the votes (3,541). Zobl won after he showed a tremendous amount of power last week for the Barons’ High School baseball team. In a 10-2 win over Harrison, Zobl went 3-for-3 with a home run. In Game 1 of a doubleheader against Royal Oak on Friday, he went deep again and had two RBI in a 12-5 win. He picked up where he left off with another homerun this week. Friday Highlights: Seaholm Baseball Beats Up On Berkley

The Maples beat the Bears in five innings; full week of highlights from around Oakland County.

* home team in all CAPS Seaholm over BERKLEY, 14-3 (Five Innings) Spencer Eick and Josh Leitman were on fire for Birmingham Seaholm on Friday, combining for seven RBI in the Maples' 14-3 five-inning mercy-rule win over Berkley. Eick finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs. Leitman was also 3-for-4 with two extra base hits and three RBI. Tommy Scheidt hit a homerun. The Bears actually had an early 3-1 after the first inning, but Seaholm came roaring back with four runs in the third and fourth. Michael Levitsky was the winning pitcher giving up three runs, two earned, over five innings. He gave up six hits and two walks while striking out three. Dream Come True: Local Girl Catches Verlander's Attention as Biggest Fan

During a battle with cystic fibrosis and after losing her mom last year, 11-year-old Shayna Hersh and her class wrote letters to her hero and ended up on a surprise journey she couldn't imagine.

Eleven-year-old Shayna Hersh might give Justin Verlander a run for his money. The Burton Elementary School fifth-grader from Berkley is the self-proclaimed biggest Detroit Tigers fan ever, goes by “Verlander” at school and is the only girl who plays baseball in the Berkley Dad’s Club baseball league. In fact, Shayna got a black eye and bloody nose during her first practice this year and it didn’t slow her down at all, she said. But this little baseball fan isn’t competing with the Detroit Tigers pitcher (though she dreams of being the first female pitcher in Major League Baseball) — she looks up to him. Friday Highlights: Lahser Baseball Wins Pitching Duel with Troy

Berkley soccer wins, Troy lacrosse beats Walled Lake Northern 13-6.

* home team in all CAPS Bloomfield Hills Lahser over TROY, 2-1 Charlie Dauch was Charlie clutch Friday night for the Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School varsity baseball team. In the fifth inning, Zach Tornow led off the inning with a hit. Dauch came to the plate and belted an RBI double to break a 1-1 tie. Reliever Neal Krentz pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh to secure the win. Krentz closed down a Colts rally in the fifth by forcing a groundout and getting a strikeout. He also had an RBI double in the top of the first. Krentz combined with starter Patrick Monahan and Jack Corbell to limit Troy to only three hits in the game. Dauch and Krentz spoiled a solid pitching performance from Colts starter John Wassel. Wassel allowed twos on …

Troy Athens’ Haley Zemmer: April 16-21 Patch Athlete of the Week

Red Hawks starting pitcher tops Berkley’s Ian Kobernick in a competitive week of voting.

Troy Athens softball player Haley Zemmer won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for April 16-21, earning 48 percent of the 1,697 votes cast this week. Zemmer, who netted 818 votes, edged out Berkley baseball player Ian Kobernick, who had 32 percent of the votes (559 votes) in a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers. Zemmer won three games last week for the Athens varsity softball team. She pitched complete games in both games of a doubleheader against Birmingham Groves on Wednesday. She won both, striking out 19 batters over two games. At the plate, she had an RBI double in the first game.
