The Detroit Piston recently shared words of wisdom with members of the Warriors basketball program.
The Detroit Pistons just released video of starting forward Kyle Singler's visit to Brother Rice High School on Jan. 31. The appearance came as a surprise to the dozens of students practicing after school hours on campus, and was the result of an e-mail from Brother Rice freshman Luke Cappetto in November, the former college star at Duke explained. Inspired by the letter, Singler brought a Pistons video team, T-shirts for the players and a stack of photos that he also autographed. "He spoke with all four teams — about 55 players, coaches and managers — and answered questions about basketball, Duke, hard work and doing what you love to do," according to the school's Facebook page.

The Knights were outscored 42-22 by Rochester in the final 16 minutes of play Wednesday night.
The core of the Lahser Knights boys basketball team — juniors Armand Cartwright, Khalil Gracey, and Yante Maten — are expected to return next season. But the team will certainly have a new identity following a 65-41 loss to Rochester in the MHSAA Region 8 finals Wednesday at West Bloomfield High School. Maten, the Knights' star junior center, finished with 14 points to lead Lahser, which will merge with Andover to become the Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks beginning next season. Guards Gracey and Cartwright finished with six and eight points, respectively, according to statistics compiled by the team. The Knights (18-7) took a 13-7 lead into the second quarter before a packed gym that included a large and loud contingent of Lahser students …

The Mustangs take on another top-10 opponent Tuesday while the Yellowjackets draw Flint Powers, which hasn't lost since Feb. 1.
The playoffs continue Tuesday night for the Marian High School Mustangs, who reached the MHSAA quarterfinals in dramatic fashion with a 40-37 overtime victory over Clarkston Friday. The Mustangs' stingy defense kept them in the game with top-10 ranked Clarkston, and sealed the victory by keeping the Wolves off the scoreboard in the extra session. Kara Holinski, who scored a team high 13 points, nailed a three for the only basket in overtime to give Marian the victory, said Bob Hanon, a member of Marians's Athletic Board. The win secured the school's 12th regional title and first appearance in the quarterfinals since 2004, Miprepzone.com reported. The Catholic High School League champions — now 21-3, and ranked No. 8 — now take on Grosse …

Cranes defeat Sault Ste. Marie 4-2 in Division 3 final on Saturday.
Cranbrook rules again. The Cranes claimed the Division 3 hockey state championship with a 4-2 victory over Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday at the Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth. Alex Alger scored two goals, and Austin Alger scored another goal for the Cranes, who claimed a state title for the 16th time, according to MI Prep Zone. Kevin Shand also scored for Cranbrook, which finished with a 28-2-1 overall record. Spencer Applebaum recorded the win in goal. Cranbrook last won a state hockey championship in 2010.
The Knights won their second-consecutive district title with a thrilling 55-52 victory that's still resonating on social media.
The Lahser Knights beat Orchard Lake St. Mary's 55-52 behind an improbable 3-point shot from an unlikely source Friday. Watch Yante Maten, Lahser's 6-8 center, dribble down the sideline against two defenders, stop and then turned away from an approaching Eaglet to fire what could arguably be the biggest shot in school history as merger with Andover looms next fall. Several of Lahser's rabid fans captured the action and celebrated on social media all night long!
