Actor may be too gay to play Christian Grey, says one best-selling author, but some Bloomfield Patch readers disagree.
The debate over who should play Christian Grey in the screen adaptation of E L James' sizzling best seller 'Fifty Shades of Grey' has taken a controversial turn. Bret Easton Ellis, author of "American Psycho," is generating a lot of buzz for comments about actor Matt Bomer's possible selection to play the lead role in an upcoming film, the Huffington Post reports. The openly gay actor that had ladies swooning in this summer's "Magic Mike" movie about male strippers is an "absolutely ludicrous" choice, Ellis declared. "Okay I'll say it. The competition between who should play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele is fierce among readers of the best-selling trilogy.
For more than a week, voracious Bloomfield Patch readers ate up the poll asking who should fulfill the recently-sold movie rights to the racy trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey that has swept the nation into a frenzy. As of Monday morning, Alexander Skarsgard and Lily Collins led our group of paired current movie stars rumored to be candidates for the lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, with 29 percent of the vote. Colin Egglesfield and Amanda Seyfried were next at 25 percent. More than 23 percent of voters preferred currently unknown actors, and 20 percent said they didn't like any of the selections and many came up with their own. The movie rights to the best-selling trilogy were recently sold and now the focus shifts to the potential cast.
A few weeks ago, we wrote about the frenzy surrounding New Your Times Best Seller Fifty Shades of Grey even at the Bloomfield Township Public Library. And the response to the story and a not-so-supportive review by Patch Blogger Ann O'Neill of the steamy trilogy penned by E L James has been strong enough to have us wondering what's next? Now that the movie rights have sold to major Hollywood studios, it was only a matter of time before speculation swirled around who will play the characters embedded in the imaginations of millions of readers around the world.
