Prom Alert for Andover, Lahser Students and Parents: Patch Wants Your Photos

We know you take hundreds of photos, so send us a pic or two of pre-prom and prom festivities so we can feature them on Patch.

Did you like the photo galleries we posted of both the Andover High School and Lahser High School homecoming dances last fall? We'd like to do it again for the school's respective proms this weekend. But we need your help. Andover's prom is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Townsend Hotel. Lahser's prom also begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Knollwood Country Club. Since we can't be at both, and wouldn't want to favor coverage for one at the expense to the other, we'd love to have parents and teens help make a photo gallery they'd be proud to share with rest of the community. So much of prom is about who you’re with and the memories you make . . . and, of course what you're wearing. Let's see those photos! We know parents and students …

Whiz Kid: Andover Student Talks About Acing the ACT

Sanjay Reddy is just 16 but already has jump-started his academic career, punctuated by a perfect score on the college preparatory exam.

Each week, Bloomfield Patch features students doing amazing things in schools and their communities. This week's Whiz Kid scored a perfect 36 on the ACT — as a junior — and finds time to captain the varsity tennis team and play in the school symphony. School: Andover High School Age: 16 Hometown: West Bloomfield Achievement: Reddy was one of just about 700 students around the country to ace the ACT this year. He also claimed a regional title in men's tennis and is currently doing research in the endocrinology department at Henry Ford Hospital in bones and minerals. Behind the Andover Band's Performance of "Isle of Skye"

Memorable performance in Edinburgh, Scotland took a lot of work and help from special musicians.

Among the highlights of the Andover Band and Orchestra's trip to the United Kingdom over Spring Break was the premiere of Scott Boerma's "Isle of Skye," at the Edinburgh Easter Festival Gala concert on April 8 in Scotland. Boerma, the Director of the University of Michigan Marching Band, Donald R. Shepherd Associate Professor of Conducting, and nationally known composer and arranger, was at Andover High School himself on March 28 to help the students prepare for the memorable performance. The work was commissioned in honor of Robert H. Ambrose in his 27th year as Director of Bands at Andover High School by the Andover Instrumental Music Supporters. "Isle of Skye" is written for band and solo French horn. Ambrose's daughter, Katy Ambrose…

Images from Edinburgh: Andover Band Acts as Ambassadors

Students make memories for a lifetime during Spring Break trip abroad.

The Andover High School Band and Orchestra recently returned from their trip over Spring Break to the United Kingdom, where they performed in the Edinburgh Easter Festival. With  initial stops in London and York, the students explored many historic sites. On day three, they traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland where they continued to take in the sights prior to performing in two Gala Concerts, the first in Reid Hall at the University of Edinburgh, and the second at St. Cuthbert's Church. The church, which was founded in 1127, was where the students premiered a new composition by Dr. Scott Boerma entitled "Isle of Skye." On Easter Sunday, the group performed in the Edinburgh Easter Festival Parade and Fun Day in the Princes Street Gardens …

'Water Wars' Prompts Andover Principal to Caution Students, Parents

Time-honored tradition intended for fun, but people should be wary of consequences.

Water Wars, the annual spring contest in which Andover High School seniors try to outsmart, outduel and over-soak one another in surprise attacks with squirt guns and other devices, are under way in the Bloomfield area. Though no incidents have been reported to local authorities, the seemingly innocent tradition has caused some concerns that prompted Principal Rob Durecka to issue an email urging caution Wednesday. "I am very concerned about the safety of our students as well as the message that Water Wars potentially sends to our greater community," Durecka wrote in an email shared districtwide. "Students have been known to recklessly endanger the safety of their targets as well as themselves trying to advance their team in the standings…

The Biffstock School Radio Fundraiser Hits Airwaves Thursday, Friday

The 36th annual pledge drive raises money for the Bloomfield Hills student-run station.

It’s time again for annual radio-a-thon on WBFH, the Bloomfield Hills Schools' radio station. The station, known to locals as “The Biff,” will kick off its 36th Biffstock pledge drive starting at 8 a.m. Thursday and run until 11 p.m. Friday. It allows WBFH students to collect money and pledges from listeners in the community who’d like to help underwrite expenses for radio station enhancements. “Our radio-a-thon is a fun event for the radio students and it gives listeners a chance to support community radio with their donations,” WBFH Biffstock Chair and Andover senior Zac Barnett said in a press release.  All 28 WBFH staff students from Andover and Lahser high schools will be on the air for one-hour shifts during the pledge, for a total …

Approximately 90 students will depart on April 2, stopping first in London for two days of sightseeing. Former Lion Lomas Brown Helps Lift Andover Football

New Coach Mike Boyd is excited about the former All-Pro's involvement as the team prepares for its final season.

Andover football is on again. After months of speculation and uncertainty due to low player interest and the departure of Head Coach Jim DeWald, school officials said they will field a team for 2012 that will be led with an impressive coaching staff.  Former Detroit Lion Lomas Brown and Nate Kulman, who played at San Diego State University, joined the staff of new Head Coach Mike Boyd, who will pilot the team through what will be the school's last season before merging with Lahser High School. The Bloomfield Hills High School Black Hawks will take the field in 2013. The team's journey formally starts today as boosters host their first fundraiser at the Lodge Grill and Bar in Keego Harbor, 2812 Orchard Lake Rd. Twenty percent of all …
