The Knights junior track and field standout wins the Bloomfield Hills poll against a strong field of candidates.
Thousands of votes were cast to celebrate the region’s top athletes from the spring season and in Bloomfield Hills, Lahser High School track and field standout Elena Miller was voted the Patch Athlete of the Spring Season. Just like in her athletic performances, Miller finished strong in the week-long vote. She trailed in the poll until the final day and results show that a final push Wednesday afternoon and evening propelled her to victory. Fans found creative ways to support their athletes, from sending out email blasts to posting on Facebook walls and Tweeting. High school athletes in Bloomfield Hills area had plenty of great performances this season. Now, we want to hear from our readers which one they thought was the best. Be sure to vote by 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 27. Final results will be posted on June 29. Here are the candidates: Mollie Fox - Sophomore, Lahser High School, Tennis - Mollie Fox gave her team a big boost by winning a regional title in No. 1 singles to help her team qualify for the state tournament. Fox beat Farmington Hills Mercy’s Winnie Karoub in the finals. Fox was one of six Knights players to reach the finals match, but the only girl to win a title. The Eagles varsity girls soccer team’s leading scorer captures the crown!
Ferndale’s Lexie Brisson-Fast wins the Patch Athlete of the Week title for May 28-June 2 to give the Eagles their first winner of the spring season. After a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers in Oakland County, Brisson-Fast had 92 votes or 46 percent of the total votes cast (200). She beat Athens shortstop Melissa Palmer, who had 78 votes (39 percent), in a close vote. Brisson-Fast helped Ferndale capture a district crown Saturday with three goals in a 5-0 win over Hazel Park. After the Vikings held her team scoreless for 20 minutes, the senior scored twice to the Eagles an advantage and help pave the way for the school’s first district title. Maples’ Spencer Eick tops Berkley’s Stephanie Miller in biggest athlete of the week contest ever!
Seaholm’s Spencer Eick won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for April 30-May 4 in one of the biggest weeks of voting yet. The Maples baseball player picked up nearly 7,500 votes after a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers in Oakland County, or 41 percent of the total votes cast (18,158). He edged out Stephanie Miller from Berkley High School, who also received strong support. The Bears’ soccer player had 40 percent of the votes (7,337). Eick came out on top after strong week at the plate for Seaholm. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs in a 14-3 mercy rule win over Berkley last Friday. Red Hawks starting pitcher tops Berkley’s Ian Kobernick in a competitive week of voting.
Troy Athens softball player Haley Zemmer won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for April 16-21, earning 48 percent of the 1,697 votes cast this week. Zemmer, who netted 818 votes, edged out Berkley baseball player Ian Kobernick, who had 32 percent of the votes (559 votes) in a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers. Zemmer won three games last week for the Athens varsity softball team. She pitched complete games in both games of a doubleheader against Birmingham Groves on Wednesday. She won both, striking out 19 batters over two games. At the plate, she had an RBI double in the first game.
