What Could Bloomfield Park Become?

Our Visions for Vacancies series asks about the possibilities for Bloomfield Township's biggest commercial availability . . . and community eyesore.

Earlier this week, we told you about the foreclosure rights for the long-vacant Bloomfield Park property finally going on sale after a protracted legal battle. According to the legal settlement between Bloomfield Township, Pontiac and the developers — which still has pending issues on appeal unrelated to the sale — the property can't just become anything. Though the initial deal for the 700,000 square-feet that included mixed commercial, retail and residential space floundered, the Oakland County Circuit Court ruling stipulates that parameters negotiated in 2002 must still be followed. Like casinos? Sorry. The deal specifically prohibits casinos and similar gaming facilities, as well as adult entertainment and cell towers, documents show. …

I think there would be a work around the issue of most of the property being in Pontiac. Natural park like infrastructure combined with business offerings to maximize usage and provision of services for the citizens. Not to mention....jobs for the people.   more ›

Bloomfield Park Foreclosure Rights Headed For Sale

The massive eyesore near the Bloomfield Township-Pontiac border is for sale following a lengthy legal battle.

Bloomfield Park, the 700,000-square-foot collection of unfinished concrete slabs and skeletal building shells on the township's north side is apparently up for sale. Following a four-year legal battle — that still has appeal issues pending — the property is officially on the market. However, some experts believe it won't fetch nearly as much as planners hoped when they started developing the ambitious project years ago, according to Crain's Detroit. William Bubniak of the Southfield-based Farbman Group, confirmed the real estate brokerage and property management firm began marketing the property last week and has the exclusive rights to do so, Crain's reported. I expect that there are many out there who are just as curious but don't have the time to talk to the Township, so I hope you write a blog when you get your answers. Personally, I have more confidence in Bloomfield Township than in the City of Pontiac when it comes to development proposals, site review, etc.   more ›
