Police Investigate Business Burglaries in Bloomfield Township

Officers with the Bloomfield Township Police Department are investigating multiple business burglaries that occurred over the past week. The first incident occurred on April 11 when officers responded to a burglar alarm at Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe at about 6:40 a.m. and found a broken window, police reports said. A K-9 from the Troy Police Department assisted at the scene and did not locate any suspects in the building. However, they followed a track north from the building to a nearby parking lot, where police said they believe the perpetrator left in a vehicle. Thanks Marcia, and good question. I do not know for sure, but it's possible that this type of service is part of mutual-aid agreements between neighboring departments, or they may just rotate on-call responsibilities for situations like this. It'd be good to find out.   more ›

Woman Finds Burglar Inside Vehicle at Bloomfield Twp. Panera

Vonzell Berry, of Detroit, faces one count of breaking and entering a vehicle in the Panera Bread parking lot.

A customer at the Panera Bread found a man in the backseat of her vehicle when she returned to it Wednesday afternoon, police said. Officers with the Bloomfield Township Police Department responded to a larceny from auto complaint and encountered the victim who said she got into her vehicle in the parking lot and immediately smelled cigarette smoke, reports said. She turned around and saw the man sitting in her backseat. She quickly got out of the car and called authorities. Police arrested Vonzell Berry, 66, without incident. He was charged Thursday in 48th District Court with one count of breaking and entering a vehicle and remained in the Oakland County Jail on $10,000 bond, records show. Oakland County Jail Inmates Injured in Bloomfield Township Crash

A bus transporting inmates to the jail in Pontiac was struck by a motorist near Square Lake Road and Woodward Avenue.

Four inmates of the Oakland County Jail suffered minor injuries Saturday when a motorist struck a bus they were on while driving through Bloomfield Township. The Oakland County Sheriff's Department's transport bus was westbound on Square Lake Road near Woodward Avenue when a vehicle abruptly made a right-hand turn in front of it at about 8:45 p.m., a news release stated. The vehicle, which was headed north on Woodward, struck the bus and caused minor damage. Three inmates complained of head and neck pain, and a fourth said they injured an ankle. Three of the inmates were transported by ambulance to McLaren Hospital in Pontiac and later released to authorities at the jail. The other went straight to the jail, according to the news release. …

Counterfeit Bills Passed at Jimmy John's; Cars Burglarized in Wabeek

Managers with the Jimmy John's at 4087 Maple Rd. told Bloomfield Township police officers that someone paid for food with counterfeit money on two occasions last week. The incidents occurred on April 3 and April 5, and involved a bogus $50 bill and a $100 bill, reports said. No suspect information was available. The managers told officers they instituted new procedures on accepting large bills. Authorities turned over the counterfeit bills and the case to the U.S. Secret Service for further investigation. Debris Thrown in Sewer Causes Backups at Fox Hills

The perpetrator or perpetrators removed two sewer line caps and dumped debris, causing several hundreds of dollars in damage, police said.

Officers with the Bloomfield Township Police Department are trying to determine who threw debris into sewer lines at the Fox Hills condominiums last week and caused hundreds of dollars of damage to multiple units, according to reports. Fox Hills management told police on April 7 that several units experienced damage because someone removed the caps to the sewer access lines and threw debris inside them. The sewers backed up in several basements and caused about $500 damage as of Thursday, police reports said. Investigators are treating the incident as a crime and classified it as as a malicious destruction of property complaint. Police Cite Rusty Bucket for Liquor License Violations

The new Bloomfield Township restaurant earned the lone reprimand issued by the Bloomfield Township Department during its annual liquor license review.

  The Rusty Bucket was the only establishment with a liquor license in Bloomfield Township to receive a citation for serving to a minor in 2012, according to the Bloomfield Township Police Department. The incident involved a waitress that served to an undercover officer during one of the regular sweeps the department does to test and ensure compliance with regulations set by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (LCC), according to an annual report. In addition to the underage-decoy operations, the department also assessed operations at the establishment related to alcohol sales and LCC policies, and found two violations among the management team. Bloomfield Resident Duped by Satellite Television Scam

The Bloomfield Township Police Department warns residents to be mindful of callers seeking payment from pre-paid credit cards.

  A resident in the 1000 block of Threadneedle told Bloomfield Township police officers he was a victim of phone scam perpetrated by someone posing to be a satellite service provider. The man visited the police department on April 2 and said he agreed to pay more than $300 for a new service package that included 6 months free television service. The provider insisted the victim use a pre-paid credit card to make the lump-sum payment, and said that they would then begin providing the service, according to reports. Authorities reminded residents to be suspicious of unsolicited calls, and those that demand payment from a pre-paid credit card, in particular. Motorists Arrested for Drinking, Smoking Pot in Bloomfield Township

  Bloomfield Township police officers arrested two motorists for being intoxicated behind the wheel this week, reports said. Officers responded to calls about a suspicious vehicle parked at the end of the street in the 5000 block of Hickory Bend on April 1. They spoke with the driver and detected the odor of marijuana, reports said. Officers searched the vehicle and found a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. They arrested Brandon Green, 23, of Bloomfield Township without incident, and cited him for possession of both drugs and drug paraphernalia. Gun Found Oustide Bloomfield Township Realtor's Office

The weathered pistol will be examined by forensic experts.

  Employees at the Century 21 in Bloomfield Township reported finding a pistol in the bushes outside of their building facing Telegraph Road on Monday, authorities said. A maintenance worker found the .45-caliber weapon under some landscaping directly outside the building and called the Bloomfield Township Police Department, according to reports. Officers described the gun as weathered and said it appeared to have been exposed to elements for most of the winter. Locker Theft at L.A. Fitness; Home Invasion in Bloomfield Hills

A patron at the LA Fitness told police that someone stole his coat from an unlocked locker on March 21, Bloomfield Township police reports said. The victim said the theft occurred sometime between 7:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The keys to the man's vehicle were inside the coat, but the vehicle was still in the parking lot when police arrived. Nothing was reported stolen and the owner towed the vehicle from the scene. A resident in the 1000 block of Arbor Court in Bloomfield Hills returned home after a weekend out of town on March 25 and found the front door smashed in, police reports said.
