Oakland County Sheriff's Tips to Avoid a Home Break-In

Make your home look occupied and difficult to break into, police advise.

Reports of multiple break-ins across Oakland County this month have police issuing warnings and tips to area homeowners. On Tuesday, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard advised residents to take "simple steps to make your home more difficult to enter and less enticing to would-be burglars," he said in a release. Bloomfield Township police are still investigating a rash of home invasions and burglaries in the 1000 Block of Hamilton Drive, the 5000 Block of Inkster Road, the 6000 Block of Colby Lane and the 1000 block of Alexander Drive during daytime hours. In January, Andrew Willey, 27, and Christopher Drinkhorn, 21, were both sentenced to serve between two and 20 years with the Michigan Department of Corrections for several burglaries…

Police Respond to Multiple Bloomfield Twp. Home Invasions Wednesday

Police believe the same individuals struck homes on four streets within a few hours. Residents urged to be vigilant about reporting suspicious vehicles.

  Officers with the Bloomfield Township Police Department responded to four home invasion reports Wednesday afternoon that appear to be related. Reports said officers were called to the 1000 Block of Hamilton Drive, the 5000 Block of Inkster Road, the 6000 Block of Colby Lane and the 1000 block of Alexander Drive during daytime hours. The homeowner on Inkster Road interrupted the crime in progress when they came home and tried to follow the two suspects, who fled in a smaller tan or silver Chrysler vehicle, but lost them, according to reports. Investigators determined the perpetrators entered each home either by smashing the glass to doorwalls, or kicking in doors, report said.
