McCready, Republicans Respond to Patterson's Hitler Comment

A host of Michigan legislators asked L. Brooks Patterson to apologize for comparing House Speaker Jase Bolger to Adolf Hitler in a television talk show.

State Rep. Mike McCready, R-Bloomfield Hills, joined a slew of legislators from across the state Friday to address and ask Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson to apologize for comparing House Speaker Jase Bolger to Adolph Hitler. Patterson made the comparison — and held a black comb underneath his nose to symbolize the former Nazi Party leader's signature mustache — during Friday's taping of the 'Off the Record' show. The round-table discussion aired on WKAR and public television affiliates Friday night will air again at usual times on Sunday. Patterson, who is still recovering from injuries suffered in a terrible car crash in August, was a guest on the show to discuss Michigan's no-fault insurance law. The controversial law faces…

Where were these people now asking Brooks Patterson to apologize when they wouldn't let Lisa Brown speak? Sorry, I think Brooks got it right (FWIW I'm not a big Patterson supporter but when he's right he's right). These folks that won't even let people speak should be put out of office.   more ›

L. Brooks Patterson Looks Ahead: 'The County is Changing'

The Oakland County executive proved he's a stand-up guy during an Election Night appearance in Royal Oak.

As Democrats celebrated election victories Tuesday in Michigan and across the country, the mood at the Emagine Royal Oak theater complex, where more than 200 Oakland County Republicans gathered, was a mixed bag. That is, until L. Brooks Patterson, 73, changed the energy of room.  “He gave some remarks and then he told us he had a surprise for us – and then he stood up on his own,” said former Royal Oak Mayor Dennis Cowan. “Everyone burst into applause.”  Patterson, elected to his sixth term as Oakland County Executive on Nov. 6, was injured in a crash in August that left him hospitalized at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac for five weeks after suffering almost a dozen broken bones. A Tearful L. Brooks Patterson Returns to Work

Amid co-workers and family, a choked up Oakland County Executive says, "I have some other great ideas I need to do before I am done."

With his daughter by his side, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson returned to the Oakland County Executive Office Building in Pontiac for the first time since he was injured in an August crash. Mary Warner, 36, accompanied her father into the Conference Center where the 73-year-old was greeted with signs that read “Welcome Back Brooks” and a standing ovation from his managers, chiefs and the media. A tearful Patterson greeted the audience from a wheelchair. Looking much thinner and speaking softly he told the audience he managed to take 168 steps today and is determined to walk again. He recalled how Anthony Prainito, 31, of Royal Oak, changed three lives on Aug. 10. “They put in a new device—a blinking yellow—and people do not …

We are kept sound by the taxpayers that are still working and people making investment in SE MI, particularly Oakland County. Our elected Commissioners are part of the "visionary". Department heads contribute greatly. I sympathize with loss of life, however, circumstances show that one could have been avoided, but accidents happen with poor personal judgement just as it did with Brooks. I don't …   more ›
