UPDATED - Signing Day: Lahser's Attenson, Gikas, Miller Make it Official

Some of Lahser High School's best athletes commit to their respective colleges and universities on national signing day.

Three Lahser High School seniors joined student athletes from across the country Wednesday in formally signing their letters of intent to compete at respective colleges, universities, and service academies next fall. David Attenson, football, Northwood University; Andrew Gikas, football, United States Air Force Academy; and Elena Miller, cross country, Northwestern, each took a pause from their traditional Wednesday routine for a ceremony at the high school entrance. Dozens of students, parents and coaches surrounded the trio at a table taking pictures and videos of the life-changing moment. "It's still sinking in, and it's surreal that this is happening to me, but I'm very excited," said Miller, beaming with pride to wear Northwestern …

Lahser Thumps Groves, Improves to 3-0; Andover Falls Again

The Knights are 3-0 for the second season in a row and are tied atop the OAA Blue with a home game against Royal Oak next Friday.

The final seasons of Andover and Lahser high school football before the merger to the Bloomfield Hills High School in 2013 continued Friday just as the first two weeks concluded: Lahser on top, and Andover searching for a win. Just like last year's season-opening contest, Lahser used a balanced air and ground attack on the way to a convincing 35-6 victory on the road at Groves, according to the MHSAA website. The game was among eight contests featured on MHSAA's Football Friday Overtime Show on Fox Sports Detroit, and you can view highlights of the game on the MHSAA Prep Zone streaming page (the Lahser-Groves highlights begin about 10 minutes in). Lahser now takes on Royal Oak at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at Dauch Field. The Rockets are O-3 after …

Did You Miss Lahser Football's 30-20 Victory Over Ferndale?

The Lahser Knights proved potent offensively and defensively in first road game of the 2012 campaign, and are now 2-0.

Last week, we featured the final rivalry game between Andover and Lahser high schools to launch the 2012 football season. Any fears of a letdown following the Knights' 70-7 thrashing of their cross-district rival were erased in the first half Friday, as Lahser stormed it's way to a 30-20 victory at Ferndale. Junior quarterback Spencer McCourt threw for three touchdowns in the first half, and sure-handed sophomore running back Nate Emery ran out much of the second half clock with a series of impressive runs, according to MiPrepzone.com. The game was the featured as MIPrepZone Game of the Week and can be seen in its entirety on MiPrepzone.com. The victory solidified Lahser's position atop the OAA Blue Division, which it hopes to improve on …

Lahser Football Comes Back For 22-14 Win Over Ferndale

The Knights pull away in the fourth quarter on the road to win second straight.

FERNDALE – The Lahser High School varsity football team didn’t have much luck on offense through three quarters on Friday night, so its defense had to step up. By forcing three fumbles before the fourth quarter, the unit helped the Knights spoil Ferndale’s home opener with a 22-14 win. “You can’t win if you turn the ball over three times,” Ferndale head coach Ryan Dunlap said. “It makes it so hard.” The Eagles maintained a 7-6 halftime lead that could’ve easily been 14-3 if not for the turnovers. Ferndale scored on its second drive of the game on an 11-yard run by running back Earl Tillford. But a fumble by quarterback Eric Ellis in the second quarter wiped away any early momentum. On the ensuing possession, Ferndale’s defense pumped up …

Lahser Season-Opening Victory Rings With Meaning

The Knights' first home game ended in 34-20 victory over Birmingham Groves; the win had special meaning as coach and players struck victory bell in honor of Lahser booster Jim Belleau.

Lahser's season opener ended with the sweet sound of victory Friday night as a newly dedicated bell chimed in memory of a special friend and booster to the school, Jim Belleau. Belleau, who led the Lahser Booster Club for four years with his wife, Jan, until their children graduated, became an announcer at the football games. He died Feb. 21, 2010, after a battle with colon cancer, his death leaving a void for a community that had come to count on Belleau's giving nature and dedication to the school. "He was the best human being I've ever known," said Dan Loria, the head coach of the Knights. Loria was brought aboard 10 years ago upon the recommendation of Belleau. "All he ever did was for us; he always found time for us and for the kids…
