The 2013 North American International Auto opens to the public Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Cobo Center in Detroit and we've got the scoop on what you need to know before you go! [Do you know someone from Bloomfield and Bloomfield Hills who will be participating behind the scenes? Leave a comment!] More than 500 vehicles from Detroit automakers and other global manufacturers will be on display inside the renovated Cobo Center and 40 will make their global debut during the 24th annual event. Did you make it to the auto show this year? If you share a photo by 6 p.m. today, you'll have a chance to win a Patch T-shirt or hat.
You've been to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit; now it's time to dream. Whether it's a Mercedes or a Ford, chances are you had a favorite car (we wonder if this Bentley is a favorite of chef Wolfgang Puck?) And more than likely, you have a photo of yourself in front of that car to prove it. Patch wants to see your photos from the auto show, and we'll reward you for it. The public portion of the North American International Auto Show kicks off Saturday in Detroit and we've got the scoop on what you need to know before you go. More than 500 vehicles from exhibitors including hometown favorites General Motors, Ford and Chrysler, as well as more exotic auto manufacturers such as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Tesla will be on display (see attached PDF for Cobo Center exhibit map). Business columnist wants to lose 'North American' and identify the host city.
You've almost certainly heard or read "Detroit Auto Show" this week, and we bet not one friend, family member or colleague has said "North American International Auto Show." (Actually, it was tiring to just type that mouthful!) Now a veteran local business columnist says what many people likely think: Why not shorten the name? "It's time to rebrand the annual get-together [as] what it actually is: the Detroit International Auto Show," Daniel Howes writes today in The Detroit News.
