Feature Photos: Fabulous Gingerbread Houses on Display at Oakland Hills

Local pastry chefs showcased their holiday imaginations at the annual Preservation Bloomfield fund-raiser at Oakland Hills Country Club.

  The banquet room of the Oakland Hills Country Club transformed Friday into a holiday gingerbread wonderland as supporters of historic preservation in Bloomfield continued to raise money for the Barton Farmhouse project. More than 200 guests filled the sold-out brunch event, which featured delectable creations from some of the Metro Detroit area's best amateur and professional pastry chefs that were up for auction. On Thursday, more than 80 children used the hand-crafted, dream desserts as inspiration for creating their own houses during the corresponding family event. Officials said that event also sold out. Feature Photos: Gazebo Sale Raises Funds For Friends of Bowers Farm, Preservation Bloomfield

Weekend treasure sale in historic gazebo nets more than $2,300 for historic preservation.

The Friends of Preservation Bloomfield raised more than $2,300 for restoration of the Barton Farm House and other local historic preservation efforts at their annual barn and gazebo "Treasure" sale at the Bowers Farm last weekend. It was the most successful treasure sale for the organization yet under the leadership of Bloomfield Hills resident Mary Lou Kopmeyer, and bodes well for another sale next year, said volunteer organizer Pat Hardy, a Bloomfield Hills city commissioner. The leftover items were all donated to the upcoming St. Hugo’s of Hills 43rd Annual Altar Guild Rummage Sale later this month.  Hardy said the proceeds from Saturday's sale will help the organization's effort to secure a temporary certificate of occupancy for the …

Treasures Abound at Bowers Farm Gazebo Sale

Friends of the Bowers Farm and the Friends of Preservation Bloomfield raise funds to keep area's history intact.

  There's much to do over the weekend in and around the Bloomfield area. And since it's tough to always plan ahead, Patch is here to help. Today's pick: "Treasure" sale at the Bowers Farm Where: Bowers School Farm (1219 Square Lake Rd.) When: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday Why go: The Friends of Bowers Farm and the Friends of Preservation Bloomfield are joining together for a barn/gazebo sale for the third straight year. Proceeds will benefit the Bowers School Farm and Barton Farmhouse restoration project. Antiques, furniture, ceramics and other collectibles are just some of the 'treasures' participants will get to choose from, rain or shine. Donations to the sale will be accepted at the farm from 3-5 p.m. today.

Whiz Kid: East Hills Middle School Student Turns Tabs Into Treasures

Tess Garcia is using her artistic skills to shine spotlight on local historic preservation.

  Each week, Bloomfield Patch features students doing amazing things in their schools and in their communities. This week's Whiz Kid has a passion for the performing arts and is making a name for himself on film, television and center stage.   Age: 13 School: East Hills Middle School Achievement: This 8th grader started her own business called Pop Can Couture, and began creating jewelry out of pop can tabs for more than a year. The budding entrepreneur and philanthropist recently donated more than $150 portions of the artwork sales to Preservation Bloomfield. Her jewelry, which includes bracelets, necklaces, earrings and hair clips, now sells at Yellow Door Art Market in Berkley and Restyle Child in Birmingham. Twenty percent of all sales …

Bakers wowed participants at the annual fundraiser for Preservation Bloomfield at Oakland Hills Country Club.

  More than 200 of the Bloomfield area's most passionate and ardent supporters got into the holiday spirit while raising funds for historic preservation at the fourth annual Gingerbread House Brunch at the Oakland Hills Country Club on Friday. The event showcased dozens of local bakers whose elaborate creations astonished the crowd and built excitement for the holidays. The gingerbread houses, cakes and other centerpieces were auctioned off with proceeds benefiting restoration of the historic Barton Farmhouse. A few of the auctioned items were donated to local charities and hospitals.
