The star of 'Oz the Great and Powerful' said she and her daughter were more than pleased with the Bloomfield Hills school during six months of filming in Michigan.
She may have been only been here for about six months, but actress Michelle Williams said that was long enough for the Roeper School in Bloomfield Hills to leave a lasting impression. During promotional interviews for her latest project 'Oz the Great and Powerful,' which opens in theaters Friday, the star talked about living in Metro Detroit while filming at the Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac. Williams, who plays Glinda the Good Witch, also made it point to praise the long-standing private school on Woodward Avenue during a an interview with Fox 2's Lee Thomas that broadcast earlier this week. "I really loved Detroit. I was so happy living there," the three-time Oscar nominated actress gushed. "My daughter (Matilda, 7) was at…

Prizes at the annual auction include Disney Park Hopper passes and a two-night stay at a Parisian hotel.
The Bloomfield Hills-based Roeper School will raise scholarships funds this winter at the school's MOSAIC auction. With a theme of '¡Viva Roeper!' the annual auction is scheduled for March 16 at the Detroit Athletic Club. Roeper, which also has an upper school campus in Birmingham, caters to gifted students. Funds raised at the MOSAIC auction benefits Roeper's Mariann Hoag Financial Aid Program and is named so because of the "many different people from so many different backgrounds that come together to make the event and Roeper so great," schools spokesperson Carri Hammers said. "Roeper strongly supports the notion that giftedness is not limited by gender, ethnicity, race or socioeconomic status," she added. New this year, Roeper wil be …

The students and staff at Birmingham's Roeper School will be celebrating their annual Diversity Day with a little help from a big name this year. Actor, songwriter, poet and Detroit-based performer Mike Ellison has been working all year with various staff members and 19 students at the Roeper Upper School to plan the 2012 Diversity Day, to be held all day today at the school's Birmingham campus. The goal of Roeper's Diversity Day is to build community by focusing on how to honor all parts of a person — from their religion, apperance, political views and more. The Roeper School expects more than 300 students, teachers and community members at fundraiser intended to raise awareness of hunger.
The Bloomfield Hills-based and Birmingham-based Roeper School will host its 10th annual Empty Bowls event on Dec. 18 to benefit Lighthouse Services of Oakland County. Themed "Give Your Bowl a Face" in 2012, Roeper expects more than 300 students, teachers and parents to attend and participate in the Empty Bowls program. This year's bowls will be created and decorated by Roeper fourth and fifth graders. The Empty Bowls program was started in 1990 at Bloomfield Hills' Lahser High School. There, art teachers were trying to help students searching for a way to raise funds to support a local food drive. What evolved was a class project to make ceramic bowls for a fundraising meal. Guests were invited to keep the bowl as a reminder of hunger …

Students and staff at the Roeper Middle and Upper School campus remember Annemarie Roeper at morning tribute.
The legacy of the late Roeper School co-founder Annemarie Roeper weighed heavily on everyone’s minds at the school’s middle and upper school campus Tuesday morning. “We are the safeguards of (Roeper’s) philosophy,” senior Gavin Buckley said. “We’re here now to make the world a better place.” Middle and upper school teachers, administrators and students gathered at the Birmingham campus Tuesday morning to honor Roeper, who passed away Friday in California at the age of 93. Even more importantly, Tuesday was a time for the Roeper community to remember and reaffirm Roeper’s educational philosophy and how it continues to shape the lives of Roeper students. Durning the 45 minute tribute to Roeper, students, staff and Roeper’s friends stood up …
