What's Open and Closed in Bloomfield This Thanksgiving

Municipal offices, grocery stores and libraries are just some of local spots changing schedules for the holiday.

  Are you staying in and around Bloomfield this Thanksgiving? Here's everything you might need to know about what's open and when: Run out of cranberries during your Thanksgiving dinner? Need another can of pumpkin pie filling? Or, among all the hubbub, did you forget to buy milk last week? Don't fear, here's what will be open Thanksgiving Day: Bloomfield Township offices will be closed Thursday, and Friday as usual. All city offices in Bloomfield Hills will be closed in observance of the holiday. All post office locations will be closed Memorial Day and there will not be any mail delivery or pickup. Mexican Restaurant Slated for Former Bloomfield Big Boy

Bloomfield Township Planning Commission expected to review site plan at public hearing Monday night.

The former Big Boy in Bloomfield Township has a new owner that wants to bring a taste of the southwest to Telegraph Road. The owners of Riverstone Hospitality, LLC, James Belinson and Chef Zackary Sklar, petitioned the township for special zoning variances and a Class C liquour license for a new restaurant earlier this year, and are expected to discuss the project tonight before the Bloomfield Township Planning Commission. The public hearing on the project is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Township Hall. The Mex, as it is described in township documents, will be about 6,300 square feet on a main floor, new mezzanine and two places for seasonal outdoor seating. Trader Joe's Taking Shape in Bloomfield

The exterior sign is up and the interior is coming together at the market's new locale at Telegraph and Maple.

  In September, we wrote about how Trader Joe's move from Farmington Hills to Bloomfied Township understandably put off some current patrons. Conversely, Bloomfield-area residents and business owners are more enthused, particularly since the construction work is starting to show visible results. Carpenters and electrical contractors are hard at work at the new location on the west side of Telegraph between the Starbucks and SavOn Drugs in Bloomfield Plaza. Matt Prentice, the restauranteur behind the new Morels in Farmington Hills, offers a 'Thanksgiving-to-Go' feast for families this Turkey Day, according to a news release. On the menu are an organic spinach harvest salad, roasted Michigan-raised turkey, Whipped potatoes, Michigan spaghetti squash, braised red cabbage and Jayme's Pumpkin Cheesecake.
