Feature Photos: Bloomfield Township Dream Drive Takes Off

The first Dream Drive fund-raiser was a success during the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise, township officials said.

The inaugural run of the Bloomfield Township Dream Drive as part of the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise was an overwhelming success and will likely be tried again, officials said. Leslie Helwig, the township's director of community relations, said the high interest in the Friday night event was a welcome surprise and the response from participants was very positive. "People were lined up here before we could even get started. It was much more than we expected," Helwig said today during the Bloomfield Township Classic Car Show Saturday morning. "The cars were gorgeous, the drivers were wonderful and people came back just so excited," she said. For $15, more than 50 participants took a 15-minute ride in one of the Performance Cobra vehicles to …

Did you miss Saturday's 18th annual cruise? Here's a look at some of the cars that were out to celebrate.

While classic cars were the stars of the show, that's not only what Saturday's Dream Cruise was about. There were tons of people connecting with one another, young entreprenuers along the Woodward Avenue route and plenty of food. Activities and events like the annual 5K were also part of the celebration. Take a look at our other two galleries to see the faces and events that comprised the 18th annual cruise. Here are the two other galleries:

Police: Woodward Dream Cruise Dos and Don'ts

Here's what you need to know to stay safe and avoid getting into trouble during Woodward Dream Cruise 2012.

There are many ways to enjoy the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise, but if there's anything local police are trying drive home to participants this year is that Saturday is a family affair. And that it's alcohol free. "Remember, this is a family event, minimize the alcohol intake, maximize the viewing pleasure of the nostalgic cars and don’t entice the cruisers to spin their tires," said Chief Richard Matott of the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety. "Spinning tires enhance the “Wow” factor but the public is in greater danger than they realize by being in such close proximity to a car spinning it’s tires that could go out of control." Of Interest: Officers will be looking for cruisers who are driving recklessly on Woodward Avenue, …

Woodward Dream Cruise: A Nightmare for Some

Residents and business owners who are fed up with the event and the activity that precedes it sound off on Facebook.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is expected to attract 1.5 million people to a 16-mile stretch of the historic avenue this Saturday – with the build-up stretching out for days, weeks and months in advance – creating a nightmare of gridlock and noise that has inspired some residents and businesses along the route to voice their disdain on Facebook. Many of those who take issue with the classic car parade on social media say they soured on the event once it began to affect their qualilty of life beyond just the day of the cruise. The Cruisers Go Home page created by Pleasant Ridge resident Jeanne Ruzzin, for example, had nearly 200 likes Tuesday and lively conversation. Ruzzin said it's not the Dream Cruise that she and her neighbors along the …
