UPDATED: Police Issue Another Warning After Mail Theft Reports

The Bloomfield Township Police Department urges residents to use official U.S. Postal Service boxes for outgoing mail.

Updated 4 p.m. with general location of thefts. Officials with the Bloomfield Township Police Department continue to warn residents about the safety of their incoming and outgoing mail following another report of mail tampering and theft last week. A warning on the department's Facebook page said officers received a number of reports and made it clear the target is outgoing checks. They offer easy access to a victim's bank accounts and can be used to make fraudulent checks payable to other people. Adkins, 21, turned herself in to authorities on Wednesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest amid a long-term fraud investigation.  Reports indicate Adkins allegedly cashed a check belonging to a township resident fraudulently at a Comerica Bank in Warren in August. The theft from …

Police Warn Residents Over Recent Mail Thefts

The Bloomfield Township Police Department urges residents not to send outgoing mail from home due to surge in mailbox larcenies.

Officials with the Bloomfield Township Police Department recently warned residents not to use their home mailboxes for paying bills due to a persistent problem with outgoing mail thefts. "Due to the recent increase in residential mail theft, resulting in eventual check fraud, the Bloomfield Township Police would like to encourage their residents to drop any mail containing checks into a public mailbox," a warning on the department's Facebook page reads.  The warning followed another report of stolen mail from a township residence, at least the sixth similar incident since March. A resident in the 4000 block of Coachmaker told police on Dec. 11 that someone stole his mail that included checks used to pay utility bills, reports said. The …
