Having grown up and lived in the Birmingham-Bloomfield area most of my life, I have a real appreciation for the value-add that the Bloomfield Hills Schools provide to the community at large. It's therefore my privelge to serve as superintendent of the Bloomfield Hills Schools, a position I have held since July 1 of 2010.

I have also served as superintendent of the Dexter Community Schools, Executive Director of Instruction for the Birmingham Public Schools, and principal of Quarton School. In addition, I've held principal and teaching positions in northern Michigan, and spent time engaged in humanitarian work overseas.

I'm deeply concerned about the 'once size fits all' approach to education currently being forced upon school districts at the state and federal levels through NCLB and Race To The Top. Instead, I favor personalization of learning over a culture of high-stakes testing that actually works against deep, meaningful learning. While I relish change and insist upon efficiency, I'm also dismayed at what appears to be a systematic 'de-funding' of public education.

My educational passions include the integration of technology to empower student learning, and providing a strategic framework that allows students and teachers to think deeply and act creatively.

I look forward to our 'virtual conversation' through this blog!
