Yummy Cupcakes: Inside Bloomfield Hills' Newest Business

Local entrepreneurs Lori and Dave Horton bring specialty cupcakes to Bloomfield Hills.

After months of renovating one of the few vacant storefronts along Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Hills, Yummy Cupcakes is now open, and owners Owner Lori and Dave Horton are ready to celebrate with a grand opening event this weekend.

Yummy Cupcakes is part of a national chain that offers specialty cupcakes and treats, and has gluten-less, vegan and sugar-free options. See more on their Facebook page. Lori Horton took a few moments to answer questions from Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills Patch.

The first day was awesome! We had tons of people lined up at the door just waiting to try out our cupcakes. There was a lot of excitement about the many flavors that we will be offering daily. Many customers were especially pleased that we will be offering gluten-less, vegan, and sugar free options.

Why is Bloomfield Hills a good fit for Yummy Cupcakes?

Yummy Cupcakes is a great fit for Bloomfield Hills because there is nothing like it in the city of Bloomfield or in Bloomfield Township. Yummy Cupcakes is the only dessert bakery in the area. What makes us unique is that our cupcakes are baked fresh daily from scratch. We use only the finest of real, wholesome and top quality ingredients.

What's great about your location?

The location is surrounded by many wonderful schools, both private and public, and many businesses and corporate offices. The location is easily accessible off Woodward Avenue and Long Lake and convenient parking is available.

What do you hope people will appreciate about your business?

I hope that people appreciate that I am their neighbor, as I also live in Bloomfield, and will support a true local business. I also hope that people will love the cupcake specialty treats that we offer such as Cupcakes in a Jar, Cupcake Push Pops, Cupcake Truffles and Truffle Pops, Cupcake Biscotti, frosting bon bons and more. Many of these treats are perfect for corporate meetings and events, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, and other special events.

We are also committed to supporting our local community. Just recently, we provided coupons for the Autism Walk and the Brooksie Walk. This summer, we were a sponsor for the Annual Cystinosis Fun Run honoring friend Kacy Wyman and benefiting the Cystinosis Research Network, which we will sponsor again in early 2014. We have other ideas in mind but they are not yet solidified.
