Man Charged With Impersonating Police in Bloomfield Township

Officers pulled over a Macomb Township man in a vehicle with police lights shortly after he stopped another motorist on Telegraph.

Authorities charged a man with impersonating a police officer after he allegedly used police lights in his vehicle to stop another motorist in Bloomfield Township late last month.

Eric Jeter, 41, was arraigned this week at 48th District Court.on one count of impersonating a public officer, a misdemeanor, stemming from the July 22 incident, police reports said. The Macomb Township man remains free on $100,000 bond.

Officers with the Bloomfield Township Police Department responded to a call from a motorist who said he was following a vehicle equipped with spotlights and badge emblems on the doors. The driver was shining the spotlight into other vehicles, reports said.

One patrol officer was stationary in the area of Telegraph and Lone Pine Road and saw the vehicles pass. The officer said he saw the suspect vehicle swerve onto the shoulder, forcing the other driver to pass by. The suspect vehicle then pulled behind the motorist who called police and activated red and white emergency lights that were installed on the vehicle.

The officer stopped both vehicles near the intersection, and Jeter exited his vehicle wearing a bullet proof vest, a badge that read “concealed weapons permit” and was carrying a pistol. He told police he worked for a private security company and activated his lights to get the police officer's attention.

Police investigated the incident, released both motorists from the scene, and forwarded the case to the Oakland County Prosecutors Office for review. The charges were filed last week.
