Movoto Ranks Bloomfield Township Among 10 Safest Towns in Michigan

Bloomfield Township residents have just a 1 in 87 chance of becoming a crime victim at all, according to Movoto.com's analysis.

Bloomfield Township is among the safest places to live in Michigan, according to the real estate website, Movoto.

The township, home to roughly 41,000, ranked no. 7 on the site's recent analysis of crime data and was among six Oakland County communities in the top 10.

Developers created the ranking by looking at FBI crime stats from 2012, and studied communities with populations of 10,000.

Movoto then looked at three criteria: violent crime (rape, murder, assault), property crime (theft, burglary, motor vehicle thefts), and the chance a resident will be a victim of crime. The study concluded Bloomfield residents have just a 1 in 87 chance of becoming a crime victim at all.

The closest communities to Bloomfield ranked in the top 10 of the 102 total locations reviewed, were West Bloomfield (8th), Berkley (5), and Rochester (10), according to the study.

Violent crime made up 50 percent of the ranking, property crime made up 30 percent, and a resident’s chances of being the victim of a crime made up 20 percent.

Beverly Hills (12), Birmingham (22), and Troy (23) made the top 25.

"When all was said and done, Grosse Ile turned out to be our safest place," reports Movoto. "What about the most dangerous? It was Benton Harbor. This city had a total of 1,100 reported crimes for just over 10,000 residents; so, residents here had a 1 in 9 chance of being the victim of a crime."
