Five Ways Bloomfield Hills Schools Can Help Gleaners Make a Difference

Bloomfield Hills Schools students, families to take on hunger on 'Make a Difference Day.'

The Bloomfield Hills Schools will partner with Gleaners Community Food Bank this week as part of the district's annual Make A Difference Day effort, which concludes Saturday, Oct. 26. The overall goal is to raise $4,000 or 12,000 meals for needy families.

Here are five ways to get involved:

Make Food Donations

Food donations will be accepted at any school in the district until Friday, Oct. 25. Collection centers are usually designated in each building. Donations should be nut free and non-perishable.

$1 Feeds One Person

Monetary donations are accepted at any time. Please make checks payable to Gleaners Community Food Bank and place it in a sealed envelope labeled "Make a Difference Day" drop it off at any school or the District Administration Offices.

Shop Virtually

Much like Patch Michigan's virtual food drive last November, the Bloomfield Hills Schools created an opportunity for participants to shop securely with Gleaners online through their website. Gleaners officials said every dollar goes a little further than the typical family shopping trip because of the non-profit organization's buying power.

Volunteer Saturday

Students and families are invited to volunteer at a Gleaners distribution center in Detroit from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Students must pre-register at their respective school, and elementary students must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

Visit Gleaners

The Gleaners website is full of information including events and how to volunteer year-round.
